It was I Love To Read Week for elementary schools across the nation, and Washington and Winans Elementary Schools really amped up literary this week. Students participated in dress-up days that included crazy hair, cowboy hats, pajamas, and red and white. Students enjoyed Dr. Suess themed project and extra reading time. Special guest readers even visited some of the classrooms.
In addition to this incredible learning and fun, the PTO is sponsoring a READ-A-THON fundraiser. Students commit to reading more at home and school and log their minutes, and family and friends make donations to their reading endeavors. The funds raised by the students with the help of the PTO go towards special school projects. In years past, PTO-raised funds have been used to buy playground equipment, special library projects, field trips, and more.
Washington and Winans is grateful for the help of the PTO in raising funds for students and learning and look forward to seeing the READ-A-THON progress. To date, 10,758 minutes have been read to or by students, and $7,730 has been raised between both schools.
