Each classroom at Washington received four iPads to be used in lessons and stations at Washington in October, and over the past few months, teachers have been working with students on using them for learning. While many students interact with tech devices prior to coming to school, few are used to using them in an educational setting like school. With the new access to devices in the classroom, students will not only utilize these devices as tools to engage in foundational skills in math and literacy, but they will also engage in lessons related to media literacy and digital citizenship.
This introduction to tablet use in kindergarten comes on the heels of a larger integration within the next few months. With the help of a grant by the FCC, Washington will soon see an increase in devices in their classrooms as teachers will eventually have enough iPads to give each student a device for classroom and off-site use when needed.
